About Amanda Kiplinger

Amanda Kiplinger I’ve been interested in photography since I picked up my first camera at the age of twelve. Growing up on a dairy farm in Ashland County gave me many opportunities to photograph landscapes, my favorite subject. While other teenagers were busy taking pictures of their friends making goofy faces I was trying to imitate my favorite landscape photographer, Ansel Adams. Several years later, I decided to make my love of photography into a profession.

Philosophy:  Many people feel that anyone can take a picture. However, to create a photograph takes much more than just pushing the shutter button. A good photographer realizes most importantly he/she must create a photograph must be technically superior to a snapshot, however, more importantly; a photographer needs to create a photograph that is visually stunning and relays to the observer their feelings and emotions of their subject. My hope is that I convey this message to observers of my work.

Style:  North American scenics including landscapes, waterscapes and macro photographs.

Technique:  Works with digital cameras (Canon 60D and Canon 50D) in color and black and white. Uses only available light and a few filters (Polarizer and Color Intensifier). Reproduces images on Epson Ultra Luster paper using an Epson R3000 Photo Printer. Inks used are Ultrachrome K3 archival nine color inks. If need be, also uses outside vendor to produce prints larger than 13 x 19.

Background:  Although not formally trained in the art of photography. I have been practicing my craft for almost ten years. Working as a professional photographer has become a serious obsession. I am currently writing articles for Nature Photographer Magazine as well as Hub Pages and I freelance write for other publications. I have self published two books, “Ohio’s 4 Seasons” and “H20”.

Publications and Shows:  Magazines include Nature Photographer Magazine, Truth Conscience, Michigan Out-of-Doors, Wyoming Elements, and Heart of Ohio Magazine. Photographs also featured on book covers including “Somewhere There’s a Rainbow” by Graydon Horath and “Common Sense” by CG Ferrel. Exhibitions include: Ashland Community Art Center (1 person show), ODOT (1 person show), Henne’s Art Cellar Gallery (various artists) (have shown there 5 times), National Center for Nature Photography (1 person show), part of large gallery shows including: Wassenberg Art Center  October Photography Show Media Juried Exhibition, Creative Chateau, Art 101 Gallery, Mansfield Art Center. Won 2nd place in Ashland County Photography contest in 2009 and finished 1st 5 times in Ashland County Fair, 2nd 4 times, 3rd twice and 4th 3 times as well as Best In Show. Finished 3rd and Honorable Mention in the Wilderness Center’s Photography Contest (2013).
